The New Job Blog: PRoud Fresh Start

A glimpse inside the life of a 20 year old starting her dream job in the City of London as I take a look back on my first four weeks working at Citigate Dewe Rogerson.

I’m Taylor, the first ever Junior Account Executive at Citigate Dewe Rogerson. I am sharing my journey in the hope of inspiring school leavers like myself that it is possible to achieve your dream job without having attended University (as much as your teachers may tell you otherwise).

It was with much anticipation that I joined CDR on 13th October to kick start my career in PR. Prior to joining I had completed a couple of weeks work experience at CDR and worked full time for another company for three years during and after my time in Sixth Form. I think it’s fair to say I knew what the working world consisted of, but one thing I knew next to nothing about was PR. This soon changed…

My first day: the first commute, the first introduction to my colleagues and the first task. Everyone’s friendly and welcoming manner, despite their busy workloads, instantly put me at ease. The word around the office was “make the most of a quiet diary while you can”, four weeks on and I am starting to understand what they meant!

My workload has increased gradually over the past few weeks, each task bringing a new challenge and in turn new skills and knowledge. A few of the tasks that I have completed thus far are: pulling together new press lists, updating forward features lists, researching potential opportunities for our clients and ringing around journalists to invite them to events.

I have also joined both the research and digital teams which I’m very excited about. My extra responsibilities consist of logging the responses from our PollRight surveys, helping to manage CDR’s social media and website and a monthly blog (yes, there will more where this came from so tune in next time).

So to conclude my first four weeks in the PR world of work that is Citigate Dewe Rogerson, life is busy but challenging – in the best possible way.
